Thu, 2024-03-07 15:47

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – Nearly five years ago, Darell Hernaiz was drafted in the fifth round of the 2019 MLB Draft right out of Americas High School by the Baltimore Orioles. After getting traded to the Oakland Athletics organization last year, Hernaiz took off last summer, skyrocketing to Triple-A while hitting .321 with nine […]

Las Vegas fans get first look at A's since stadium funding and relocation were approved

Thu, 2024-03-07 11:47

The Oakland Athletics return to Las Vegas this weekend for exhibition games against Milwaukee, their first appearance since announcing the relocation to what the team envisions as its future home city. The games at Las Vegas Ballpark, home of the franchise's Triple-A Aviators, feature an A's team planning a new regular-season ballpark on the Strip it hopes will open in 2028. The Nevada Legislature last June enacted $380 million in funding for a $1.5 billion stadium, and baseball owners unanimously approved the relocation in November.

Andujar homers twice, Boyle and Estes shine in A's Cactus League win over Angels

Wed, 2024-03-06 15:36

The A's had nothing to lose when they claimed Miguel Andujar off waivers over the winter. But with Opening Day rapidly approaching, the largely under-the-radar move keeps looking better and better. Andujar has been one of the A's hottest hitters in camp, and on Wednesday he hit a pair of home runs and drove in four runs in Oakland's 12-5 win over the Anaheim Angels at Tempe Diablo Stadium in Tempe, Arizona. Andujar, 29, appeared poised for stardom with the New York Yankees when he was runner-up to Shohei Ohtani for the American League Rookie of the Year in 2018. But injuries and inconsistency have mostly derailed Andujar's career path every since. Andujar has appeared in more than 36 games in

Wed, 2024-03-06 14:35

The Oakland Athletics and their design teams released renderings Tuesday of the club's planned $1.5 billion stadium in Las Vegas that show five overlapping layers with a similar look to the famous Sydney Opera House. The A's hope to move into that 33,000-seat domed stadium in 2028, depending mostly on the construction timeline. A glass window beyond the outfield provides an outdoor feel with views of the Las Vegas Strip. Also included is an 18,000-square-foot video board, which would be the largest in Major League Baseball.

Wed, 2024-03-06 10:16

The city of Oakland forever will hold a special place in Josh Donaldson's heart. After announcing his MLB retirement on Monday after 13 seasons, the former A's third baseman joined Chris Townsend Wednesday on "A's Cast" where he reflected on his four seasons in Oakland and the players and coaches who helped pave his major-league journey.

Medina to miss start of A's 2024 season with Grade 2 MCL sprain

Wed, 2024-03-06 09:45

The Athletics are eager and ready for a fresh start in 2024 following two consecutive 100-plus loss seasons, but at least temporarily, those plans won't include starting pitcher Luis Medina. Medina sustained a Grade 2 MCL sprain in his right knee, A's manager Mark Kotsay said Wednesday, and will begin the 2024 MLB season on the injured list. The 23-year-old righty exited his most recent spring training start in Oakland's loss to the Cincinnati Reds on Monday after pitching just 1 1/3 innings.

The city of Oakland has been -- and is -- home to a few of the most loyal and passionate fanbases in professional sports. Unfortunately for Warriors, Raiders and Athletics fans, all three teams either have relocated or are trying to relocate. The one spearheading the A's move is team owner John Fisher, who spoke exclusively to the San Francisco Chronicle's Susan Slusser on Tuesday about the newly released renderings for the team's proposed ballpark at the Tropicana site in Las Vegas.

4 Athletics bold predictions as MLB spring training gets underway

Tue, 2024-03-05 14:02

Whether it comes with chagrin, delusional optimism, or both, the Oakland Athletics may be playing their last season in the city of Oakland before moving… somewhere before maybe finally finding their home in Las Vegas. At this point, Hohokam Stadium could be where the A's will be playing next season for all anyone knows. It might be in better shape than the Oakland Coliseum, and maybe at least they'll still be welcomed there. Although playing in the Arizona heat from May to August could be a little toasty.

Oakland A's release renderings for Las Vegas ballpark shaped like a 'spherical armadillo'

Tue, 2024-03-05 12:51

Nearly a year after the Oakland A's announced their plans to move the team to Las Vegas, the A's finally unveiled renderings for their ballpark in Las Vegas. The 33,000-seat park will be enclosed by a roof but will feature “the world's largest cable-net glass window” to allow for natural light and views of the strip. The architects, Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) and HNTB, are calling the stadium a “spherical armadillo” because of the roof's overlapping layers.

Oakland A's bright spot Gelof brings hot bat to Cactus League

Tue, 2024-03-05 05:35

After being named MLB's rookie of the month last August in his first full month as a major leaguer, Zach Gelof is continuing his hot streak in spring training, driving the ball to all parts of the field. As the A's have had a ton of moving parts throughout the last few seasons, Gelof looks to be the second baseman of the future for the team, a role manager Mark Kotsay is cognizant of as Gelof enters his first full season. “I think Zach has just picked up where he left off,” Kotsay said.

Mon, 2024-03-04 18:14

Hard-throwing A's starter Luis Medina left Monday's spring training game against Cincinnati with a sprained right knee, the severity of which may not be known for a couple of days. Medina, who's battling rookie Joe Boyle for the fifth spot in Oakland's rotation, gingerly walked off the mound with manager Mark Kotsay and assistant trainer Brad LaRosa in the second inning of what would become a ghastly 15-8 loss to the Reds.
