Oakland fan groups aren't flocking to see Athletics play SF Giants this weekend
The tears that flooded the Coliseum last Sept. 26 have given way to grim resignation as the Athletics return to the Bay Area without a city officially attached to their nickname. The A's begin a three-game series against the Giants Friday night at Oracle Park but it will lack the fervor of the final game in Oakland before 46,889 fans against the Texas Rangers. There will be a smattering of green “Sell” T-shirts and “Oakland” gear.
Inaugural 'Rivalry Weekend' Begins with Giants Taking on The Athletics
The San Francisco Giants will take on the Athletics in MLB's inaugural Rivalry Weekend, leaving fans scratching their heads with more entertaining matchups with division rivals being in the cards for San Francisco. MLB went for more geographical rivalries than historical ones, with San Francisco's biggest rival, the Dodgers, taking on the Angels and the San Diego Padres facing the Seattle Mariners.
New SF Giants-A's rivalry will have familiar feel, but it'll never be the same as the Bay Bridge Series
At some point during his start Friday night, right-hander Logan Webb expects to hear a familiar battle cry as the San Francisco Giants begin a three-game series at Oracle Park against the now-relocated Athletics. “You're always going to hear 'Let's Go Oakland' chants,” said the Giants ace, a Rocklin native who grew up an A's fan. The series this weekend marks the first time the A's have returned to the Bay Area since the John Fisher-owned franchise left Oakland after 57 years after last season and moved, at least temporarily, to Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento.

Tony Kemp, who spent nine seasons as a spark plug in places like Houston and Oakland, retires
Tony Kemp is calling it a career. The veteran utility player announced his retirement on social media Thursday after nine seasons in the majors. The 5-foot-6 Kemp hit .237 with 35 home runs and 184 RBIs in 739 games for the Houston Astros, Chicago Cubs, Oakland Athletics and Baltimore Orioles. Kemp broke in with the Astros in 2016, three years after the club selected him in the fifth round of the 2013 amateur draft out of Vanderbilt.
