Oakland A's block Ballers' plan to play game at Coliseum in June

Thu, 2024-01-04 13:01

The minor league Oakland B's planned to take over the Oakland A's venue at the Coliseum for a night of nostalgia in late June -- until the big league club blocked their agreement as exclusive rights holder to the building for professional baseball. Months ago, before the newly created Oakland Ballers were official and for the most part still just a big dream, co-founder Paul Freedman went back and forth by email some 70 times in an effort to secure one special game at one special venue where he and so many others hold treasured memories dating to their youths. Freedman said he and co-founder Bryan Carmel had a signed contract in place and deposit paid through communication with ASM Global, which operates the building for the Coliseum Authority -- an agency leasing the ballpark to the A's through this year.

Wed, 2024-01-03 07:00

Last month I went to Las Vegas to see U2 at Sphere. One other thing I did in Vegas is have dinner with some friends who live there. One friend is gung-ho about the proposed Oakland Athletics move to Vegas. My friend contends that one way the Las Vegas A's will fill their ballpark is with fans of the teams coming to town.

Could the Detroit Tigers Trade For This Oakland A's Bat? The A's may have a tough time fitting this promising bat into their lineup, and Detroit would make a good landing spot Author: Jason Burke Publish date: Jan 3, 2024 7:00 PM EST The Detroit Tigers seemed to turn a corner in 2023, going 78-84 and finishing in second place in the AL Central. With a number of talented young players already on the roster, the Tigers are a team that could sneak up on some people in 2024 with the rest of the division staying fairly quiet all off-season. Detroit finished with the same 89 wRC+ as a team as the Oakland A's in 2023, but the Tigers also scored 76 more runs as an offense. The A's will be figuring

Could the Toronto Blue Jays Go After This Bat From the Oakland A's? The Toronto Blue Jays and Oakland A's have made a couple of big trades in the past Author: Jason Burke Publish date: Jan 2, 2024 7:00 PM EST The Toronto Blue Jays are a team with title aspirations. They have a tremendous pitching staff that ranked fourth in ERA as a group last season, while their offense ranked 8th in wRC+ at 108 (100 is league average), but 14th in runs scored. The top of their lineup with George Springer, Bo Bichette, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is enviable. Yet, according to Roster Resource, their DH as of right now is backup catcher Danny Jansen. That figures to change with the Jays either adding a first baseman

Fri, 2023-12-29 22:21

A's New Addition Miguel Andujar Raking in Winter League The Oakland A's may have found another power bat for their 2024 lineup Author: Jason Burke Publish date: Dec 30, 2023 7:00 AM EST The A's claimed Miguel Andujar off waivers from the Pittsburgh Pirates back in early November after he played in just 30 games for the Pirates in 2023. In that playing time he hit .250 with a .300 OBP, knocked four homers, stole a couple of bags, and struck out just 14.4% of the time. Oakland decided to take a chance on Andujar after that performance, plus the .338 average with a .404 OBP and 16 homers he put up in 103 games in Triple-A. In the Dominican Winter League, Andujar has kept the hits coming. Through

A's Signing Has Similar Skillset to New York Yankees Reliever New Oakland A's reliever Michael Kelly is a sneaky option for some innings in 2024 Author: Jason Burke Publish date: Dec 28, 2023 7:00 AM EST The Oakland A's claimed right-handed reliever Michael Kelly off waivers this off-season from the Cleveland Guardians, and while the move was barely reported, the 31-year-old offers a similar skillset to New York Yankees reliever Clay Holmes.
